Ukrainian General Staff: 540 Russian personnel killed in 24 hours

The total combat losses of the enemy from 24.02.2022 to 15.08.2023 were approximately:

personnel ‒ about 254920 (+540) persons,

Glory to Ukraine! The five hundred and thirty-eighth day of large-scale armed aggression of the russian federation against our state continues.

During the day, the Russian occupiers launched 42 missile strikes, 44 airstrikes and fired 24 rocket salvo fire strikes at the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population, including children. Residential buildings and other civil infrastructure were destroyed.

The probability of launching missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

During the day, 23 combat clashes took place.

On the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

On the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy launched an airstrike in the Stepno area of the Sumy region. He carried out mortar and artillery shelling of more than 20 settlements, in particular, Tymonovichi, Khotiivka, Gremyach of the Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Fotovizh, Atynske, Katerynivka, Vodolagy of the Sumy region and Veterinarne, Gatyshche, Vovchansk, Kreidyanka, Ambarne in the Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the areas southeast of Vilshan and east of Petropavlivka of the Kharkiv region. Carried out airstrikes in the areas of Ivanivka, Zagryzovo, Vilshanka of the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka of the Luhansk region. Kupyansk, Pishchane, Cherneshchyna of the Kharkiv region were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

On the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Bilogorivka, Luhansk region, and Siversk, Spirny, Vesely, Donetsk region. The settlements of Kolodyazi and Siversk of the Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire from the enemy.

In the direction of Bakhmut, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Vasyukivka, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and North Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements were affected by enemy artillery shelling, among them Pryvillia, Markove, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Klishchiivka, and Bila Gora of the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area south of Avdiivka, Donetsk region. Carried out airstrikes in the Avdiivka and Nevelsky areas. More than 10 settlements, including Keramik, Spepove, Avdiivka, Severne, and Pervomaiske of the Donetsk region, were hit by artillery fire.

In the Marinka direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the area of the towns of Marinka and Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy launched an airstrike in the Krasnohorivka region of the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, in particular, Oleksandropil, Maryinka, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka and Elizavetivka of the Donetsk region, were hit by artillery fire.

In the Shakhtarske direction, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to restore the lost position in the Urozhany region of the Donetsk region. Carried out airstrikes in the areas of Velika Novosilka, Makarivka, Staromayorsky and Urozhany of the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, including Vugledar, Prechistivka, Velyka Novosilka, Blagodatne, Staromayorske, and Rivnopil of the Donetsk region, were hit by artillery fire.

In the direction of Zaporizhzhia, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the districts of Omelnyk, Malaya Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, and Robotyny of the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements, including Novodarivka, Poltavka, Zaliznychne, Charivne, Novoandriivka, and Stepove of Zaporizhzhya region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.

In the Kherson direction, the enemy carried out airstrikes in Mykolaivka and Sadovoi districts of the Kherson region. Such settlements as Kherson, Ponyativka of the Kherson region and Ochakiv of the Mykolaiv region were subjected to enemy artillery fire.

At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, are entrenched at the reached boundaries, and carry out counter-battery countermeasures.

During the day, the Air Force of the Defense Forces carried out 7 strikes on areas where the enemy’s personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated.

During the day, units of missile forces and artillery hit 2 artillery pieces in firing positions, 1 anti-aircraft missile complex and another important enemy object.

Forced displacement represents one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Individuals and families, torn from the fabric of their communities, find themselves navigating a world of uncertainty, often without basic necessities or a clear path to safety. There are currently some 110 million forced displaced, and this number is growing by 10 million each year!

At the heart of this crisis are the political triggers. Armed conflicts, ethnic or religious persecutions, and systemic human rights abuses force millions to flee their homes in terror. Many are displaced within their own national boundaries, while others seek asylum abroad. If these factors change as a result of political shifts at home or the pressures from abroad, they can return to their homes. Forced displacement is thus different from environmentally driven displacement, as victims of climate change may never be able to return to their homes.

The ramifications of any sort of displacement are profound, not just for those directly affected, but also for host communities and countries. Overburdened infrastructures, socio-economic strains, and cultural tensions can arise, necessitating comprehensive strategies to foster harmony and integration. Yet the root causes of forced displacement can be remedied with a concerted focus by local players and international diplomacy.

Organizations like Refugees International play a crucial role in this arena, advocating for the rights and needs of the displaced, conducting on-the-ground assessments, and influencing policymakers to take informed actions. Their relentless work underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency ofinternational cooperation. But they, too, are overwhelmed by the rapid expansion of the crisis.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL), with its core principles centered on the protection of civilians during conflicts, plays a pivotal role in this discourse. Yet, despite clear legal frameworks, compliance remains
inconsistent. This initiative emphasizes the importance of upholding and reinforcing these international standards.

It’s not just about recognizing the problem; it’s about active engagement. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals to prioritize the rights and needs of the forced displaced. Through collective efforts, informed policies, and sustained advocacy, we can shift the narrative from passive acknowledgment to proactive intervention.
