Operational information as of 16.00 18.05.2024 on the Russian invasion

The situation at the front remains tense. The enemy, using their advantage in the number of personnel, continues to attack our positions. Ukrainian defenders cause the enemy significant losses and in some areas carry out assault operations. During the current day, there have already been 66 combat clashes.

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy supported by aviation attacked in the areas of Liptsiv and the northwest of the Green, the fight is ongoing in the area of vovchanska. Currently, the number of combat encounters in this direction has reached 10, while the Russian occupiers tried to improve the tactical position eight times, our units in turn – twice. Near Green, enemy planes dropped three more controlled air bombs.

In the Kupians янkomu direction, the enemy has already made seven attempts of assault, including in the area of the settlement Synkivka. Another area of counterattaku is conducted by Ukrainian soldiers. The situation is dynamic and remains under the control of the Defense Forces.

In the limans зроkomu direction the number of combat clashes of the current day increased to five. In order to support the attack in the direction of Torsky, the Russians launched an air strike on this settlement with the use of three CABs.

In the northern direction that in the Donetsk region, an enemy air strike with the application of cab was carried out in Bilogorivka.

One of the hottest directions of the front remains Kramatorskij, where the number of attacks of the aggressor reached 10. The new directions of the enemy’s assault in the afternoon here became Ivanivské and Kurdyumivka. On the dilííí̈vcí Russian aviation hit nekkerovanimi avíacíjnimi missiles.

In the pokrovs вихkomu direction the tension of combat today is the highest: here our soldiers fought off 18 enemy storms. The hottest near Novooleksandrivka. Nevelsky also became the direction of the invaders’ attack.

In the Kurakhiv direction, the enemy nine times tried to break through the boundaries of our defense, including in the area of Georgiyivka. Under the kerovaní airbombs of Russian terrorists came Elizavetívka.

Twice the enemy tried to attack in the area of Staromayorsky in the Vremivsk direction, suffered a loss and retreated.

At the end of the directions, the situation of significant changes did not undergo.

Forced displacement represents one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Individuals and families, torn from the fabric of their communities, find themselves navigating a world of uncertainty, often without basic necessities or a clear path to safety. There are currently some 110 million forced displaced, and this number is growing by 10 million each year!

At the heart of this crisis are the political triggers. Armed conflicts, ethnic or religious persecutions, and systemic human rights abuses force millions to flee their homes in terror. Many are displaced within their own national boundaries, while others seek asylum abroad. If these factors change as a result of political shifts at home or the pressures from abroad, they can return to their homes. Forced displacement is thus different from environmentally driven displacement, as victims of climate change may never be able to return to their homes.

The ramifications of any sort of displacement are profound, not just for those directly affected, but also for host communities and countries. Overburdened infrastructures, socio-economic strains, and cultural tensions can arise, necessitating comprehensive strategies to foster harmony and integration. Yet the root causes of forced displacement can be remedied with a concerted focus by local players and international diplomacy.

Organizations like Refugees International play a crucial role in this arena, advocating for the rights and needs of the displaced, conducting on-the-ground assessments, and influencing policymakers to take informed actions. Their relentless work underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency ofinternational cooperation. But they, too, are overwhelmed by the rapid expansion of the crisis.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL), with its core principles centered on the protection of civilians during conflicts, plays a pivotal role in this discourse. Yet, despite clear legal frameworks, compliance remains
inconsistent. This initiative emphasizes the importance of upholding and reinforcing these international standards.

It’s not just about recognizing the problem; it’s about active engagement. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals to prioritize the rights and needs of the forced displaced. Through collective efforts, informed policies, and sustained advocacy, we can shift the narrative from passive acknowledgment to proactive intervention.
