Russian Defence Ministry on progress of special military operation as of 17–23 January 2026
In response to terrorist attacks launched by Ukraine against civilian facilities in Russia from 17 to 23 January, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation delivered one massive and five group strikes, which hit Ukrainian defence industry enterprises, power and transport infrastructure objects used by the AFU, ammunition and POL depots, production workshops, storages, preflight checkup and launch sites of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles as well as temporary deployment areas of Ukrainian armed formations and foreign mercenaries.
Over the past week, as a result of resolute offensive actions in Kharkov direction, units of the Sever Group of Forces took Siminovka (Kharkov region) under control.
Losses were inflicted on formations of three mechanised brigades of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, one national guard brigade, and two border detachments of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
In Sumy region, losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one jaeger brigade, one assault brigade, one air assault brigade, two assault regiments of the AFU, and two territorial defence brigades.
In total, in the Sever Group’s area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to more than 1,110 troops, nine armoured fighting vehicles, 107 motor vehicles, and 18 field artillery guns. In addition, 10 electronic warfare stations and counter-fire radars, and 23 ammunition and materiel depots were destroyed.
Over the past week, units of the Zapad Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of six mechanised brigades, two airmobile brigades, one air assault brigade, two assault brigades of the AFU, two territorial defence brigades, and three national guard brigades.
The AFU losses in this direction amounted to more than 1,400 troops, two tanks, 18 armoured fighting vehicles, 150 motor vehicles, and 11 field artillery guns. Twenty-nine ammunition depots were wiped out.
As a result of resolute actions, units of the Yug Group of Forces liberated Privolye (Donetsk People’s Republic).
Losses were inflicted on formations of six mechanised brigades, one motorised infantry brigade, one airmobile brigade, one assault brigade, one mountain assault brigade of the AFU, one marine brigade, and one territorial defence brigade.
Over the past week in the Yug Group’s area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to more than 1,255 troops, 33 armoured fighting vehicles, including two U.S.-made Stryker armoured fighting vehicles and four M113 armoured personnel carriers. In addition, 80 motor vehicles, 18 artillery guns, including six Western-made samples, 13 electronic warfare stations and counter-fire radars, 11 ammunition, POL, and materiel depots were destroyed.
Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of seven mechanised brigades, two jaeger brigades, one airmobile brigade, two air assault brigades, three assault regiments of the AFU, one marine brigade, one territorial defence brigade, and five national guard brigades.
Over the past week in this direction, the AFU losses amounted to more than 2,970 troops, four tanks, including one German-made Leopard tank, 33 armoured fighting vehicles, 50 motor vehicles, 15 field artillery guns, including two U.S.-made 155-mm Paladin self-propelled artillery systems.
Units of the Vostok Group of Forces advanced into the depth of the enemy’s defence and liberated Priluky in Zaporozhye region.
Losses were inflicted on formations of four mechanised brigades, two assault brigades, one unmanned systems brigade, five assault regiments of the AFU, one marine brigade, two territorial defence brigades, and one national guard brigade.
In the Vostok Group’s area of responsibility, the AFU losses amounted to more than 1,740 troops, three tanks, 23 armoured fighting vehicles, 67 motor vehicles, 11 artillery guns, three ammunition and materiel depots.
Over the past week, as a result of resolute actions, units of the Dnepr Group of Forces liberated Pavlovka (Zaporozhye region).
Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of one mechanised brigade, one mountain assault brigade, and two coastal defence brigade of the AFU.
The AFU losses amounted to up to 335 troops, 37 motor vehicles, two artillery guns, 13 electronic warfare stations, and five materiel depots.
Over the past week, attack unmanned aerial vehicles, Missile Troops, and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces destroyed eight MLRS combat vehicles, including three Western-made samples, as well as one Osa air defence system combat vehicle.
Air defence units shot down 35 guided aerial bombs, 47 U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectiles, seven Neptune long-range guided missiles, and 1,468 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.
In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the enemy has lost:
670 aircraft,
283 helicopters,
110,812 unmanned aerial vehicles,
646 anti-aircraft missile systems,
27,279 tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles,
1,650 MLRS combat vehicles,
32,775 field artillery guns and mortars,
52,611 units of support military vehicles.
