NUG Calls for Improved Waste Management in Bagan World Heritage Region
Bagan, an ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage site, faces significant waste management challenges. On June 17, the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Natural Resources & Environmental Conservation highlighted the urgent need for waste management infrastructure in the Bagan Ancient Civilization region.
The Bagan heritage area attracts both local and foreign tourists and includes villages and towns. Waste generated by local residents, including those in rural and urban areas, as well as by hotels, restaurants, and tourists, poses a threat to the environment of this historic region. The Ministry emphasized that addressing this issue requires systematic waste management that preserves the Outstanding Universal Value of the World Heritage site.
