At the 79th birthday celebration of State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on June 19, National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann emphasized the Military Council’s fear of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s influence on the public revolution.
“Not allowing various international representatives and leaders to meet with the public leader is because [the Military Council] is very afraid of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s impact on the entire public revolution,” the Prime Minister stated.
He asserted that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, always standing with the people, fully supports those fighting for the truth. He highlighted the ongoing imprisonment of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, and the various ways the military leaders are torturing the people and attempting to separate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from the revolutionary movement. The Prime Minister reiterated the National Unity Government’s commitment to continuing Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s democratic journey. He pledged that the struggle, fueled by the lives, blood, sweat, sacrifices, and creative efforts of the entire people, will persist until the military dictatorship is completely eradicated from Myanmar.
