Glory to Ukraine! The four hundred and fortieth day of the large-scale armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine continues.

During this day, the enemy launched 20 missile and 30 air strikes, fired about 30 MLRS systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas. The enemy used 17 air-launched cruise missiles, 15 of which were destroyed by our defenders, and 3 more  S-300 missiles on Kramatorsk and Kostyantynivka to launch missile strikes. The civil infrastructure was destroyed.

The probability of launching missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

The enemy continues to concentrate its main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Maryinka directions. During the day, the enemy carried out almost 30 attacks on the specified areas of the front. The fiercest battles continue for the cities of Bakhmut and Maryinka.

No signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups were detected in the Volyn and Polissiya directions. Certain units of the armed forces of the russian federation will continue to be stationed at the training grounds of the republic of belarus.

In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi areas, the enemy continues to maintain a military presence in the areas bordering Ukraine. During the past day, he carried out mortar and artillery attacks on the settlements of Zaliznyi Myst, Muravyi, Chernihiv region; Tovstodubov, Bachivsk, Stari Virky, Iskriskivshchyna, Volfine, Yunakivka, Mogrytsia, Popivka and Slavhorod of the Sumy region, as well as Hoptivka, Varvarivka, Bugruvatka, Ohirtseve, Gatyshche, Pletenivka, Tyche, Mala Vovcha, Budarky, Zemlianka, Vilkhuvatka, Dvorichanske and Khatne on Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy tried to improve the tactical position, conducted offensive actions near the settlements of Masyutivka and Stelmakhivka, but was unsuccessful. Kamianka, Kolodyazne, Krasne Pershe, Figolivka, Dvorichna, Lyman Pershi in Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk region were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.

In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Bilogorivka during the day. Makiivka, Bilogorivka, Vesele of Luhansk region and Yampolivka and Spirne of Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

The enemy continues to advance in the direction of Bakhmut.

During the day, he conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the city of Bakhmut, as well as in the direction of the settlements of Ivanovske and Stupochki. Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Zalizne and New York of the Donetsk region were affected by enemy shelling.

The enemy did not conduct offensive operations in the Avdiivka direction. Conducted an airstrike in the area of Avdiivka settlement. Shelled Avdiyivka, Pervomaiskyi, Netaylovy and Karlivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Maryinka direction, units of the defense forces repelled numerous enemy attacks in the area of the city of Maryinka. At the same time, Georgievka in the Donetsk region also came under enemy fire.

During the day, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations in the Shakhtarsk direction. Shelled the settlements of Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Vugledar, Prechistivka and Velyka Novosilka.

The enemy continues to conduct defensive operations in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions. Meanwhile, shelled the settlements of Vremivka, Novopil of the Donetsk region; Olhivske, Malynivka, Gulyaipole, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Orihiv, Novodanilivka, Kamianske and Plavni of the Zaporizhzhia region; Antonivka, Molodizhne and Zelenivka, Kherson region.

On May 8, the russian occupiers began removing preschool and school-age children, along with their parents, as well as educators and other public sector employees, from the city of Kamianka-Dniprovsk, Zaporizhzhia Region. Few people were willing. Evacuation is carried out to Berdyansk. At the same time, all medical workers of the local hospital were called to work.

During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces made 4 strikes on areas where the enemy’s personnel and military equipment were concentrated, as well as 2 strikes on his anti-aircraft missile systems. And units of missile troops and artillery struck 2 areas of concentration of manpower and a radio-electronic warfare station of the occupiers.

Forced displacement represents one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Individuals and families, torn from the fabric of their communities, find themselves navigating a world of uncertainty, often without basic necessities or a clear path to safety. There are currently some 110 million forced displaced, and this number is growing by 10 million each year!

At the heart of this crisis are the political triggers. Armed conflicts, ethnic or religious persecutions, and systemic human rights abuses force millions to flee their homes in terror. Many are displaced within their own national boundaries, while others seek asylum abroad. If these factors change as a result of political shifts at home or the pressures from abroad, they can return to their homes. Forced displacement is thus different from environmentally driven displacement, as victims of climate change may never be able to return to their homes.

The ramifications of any sort of displacement are profound, not just for those directly affected, but also for host communities and countries. Overburdened infrastructures, socio-economic strains, and cultural tensions can arise, necessitating comprehensive strategies to foster harmony and integration. Yet the root causes of forced displacement can be remedied with a concerted focus by local players and international diplomacy.

Organizations like Refugees International play a crucial role in this arena, advocating for the rights and needs of the displaced, conducting on-the-ground assessments, and influencing policymakers to take informed actions. Their relentless work underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency ofinternational cooperation. But they, too, are overwhelmed by the rapid expansion of the crisis.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL), with its core principles centered on the protection of civilians during conflicts, plays a pivotal role in this discourse. Yet, despite clear legal frameworks, compliance remains
inconsistent. This initiative emphasizes the importance of upholding and reinforcing these international standards.

It’s not just about recognizing the problem; it’s about active engagement. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals to prioritize the rights and needs of the forced displaced. Through collective efforts, informed policies, and sustained advocacy, we can shift the narrative from passive acknowledgment to proactive intervention.
