Ukrainian General Staff: 1,140 Russian troops killed or injured in the past 24 hours; 34 Russian tanks and APCs destroyed or disabled

Operational information on 18.00, 19.12.2023 regarding the #russian_invasion 

Glory to Ukraine! The six hundred and sixty-fourth day of the large-scale armed aggression of the russian federation against our state continues.

During the day, 69 combat clashes took place. The enemy launched 1 missile and 10 air strikes, carried out 40 attacks from rocket salvo systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of the russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are wounded among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.

On the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly. There were no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and intelligence activities, attacks populated areas from the territory of the russian federation, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. More than 20 settlements were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Karpovychi, Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Esman, Ulanov, Volfine, Stepok of the Sumy region; Guryiv Kozachok, Veterinarne, Staritsa, Vovchansk, Budarki, Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled all attacks by the occupiers in the Sinkivka area of the Kharkiv region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the defenses of our troops. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, in particular, Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestovka of the Kharkiv region.

On the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled 4 enemy attacks in the areas of Serebryansk Forestry of Luhansk Oblast and east of Terniy of Donetsk Oblast. More than 10 settlements were affected by artillery and mortar attacks, among them Nevske, Belogorivka of Luhansk region and Torske, Serebryanka, Verkhnyokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka of Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 10 enemy attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka, Donetsk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, in particular, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, New York of the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 22 enemy attacks east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepovoy, Avdiivka and another 7 attacks in the Pervomaisky and Nevelsky districts of the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements, including Avdiivka, Severne, Karlivka, Netaylove, and Pervomaiske of the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the occupiers.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka districts of the Donetsk region, where the enemy launched 11 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of our defenders. Georgiivka, Maryinka, Novomykhailivka, Paraskoviivka, Kostyantynivka, Antonivka came under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.

The enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions in the Shakhtarske direction. Shelled about 10 settlements with artillery and mortars, in particular, Vugledar, Prechistivka, Zolota Niva, Staromayorske, Rivnopil of the Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled 9 attacks by the invaders west of Novopokrovka and Robotiny in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to dislodge our units from the occupied lines. About 20 settlements, including Levadne, Malynivka, Gulyaipole, Orihiv, Novoandriivka, and Kamianske of the Zaporizhzhya region, were hit by artillery and mortar attacks.

On the Kherson direction, Kherson, Tyaginka, Ivanivka, Tokarivka of the Kherson region and Ochakiv of the Mykolaiv region were hit by enemy artillery fire.

The enemy did not give up his intention to knock out our units from the left bank of the Dnipro river, made 8 assault attempts, received a decent repulse, retreated with losses. Our units are firmly on the defensive, will continue to hold their positions and inflict fire damage on the enemy. Measures to expand the bridgehead continue.

During the day, the Aviation of the Defense Forces struck 6 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment of the enemy.

Units of the missile forces hit 2 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, a control post, 3 artillery means and 4 enemy ammunition depots.

Forced displacement represents one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Individuals and families, torn from the fabric of their communities, find themselves navigating a world of uncertainty, often without basic necessities or a clear path to safety. There are currently some 110 million forced displaced, and this number is growing by 10 million each year!

At the heart of this crisis are the political triggers. Armed conflicts, ethnic or religious persecutions, and systemic human rights abuses force millions to flee their homes in terror. Many are displaced within their own national boundaries, while others seek asylum abroad. If these factors change as a result of political shifts at home or the pressures from abroad, they can return to their homes. Forced displacement is thus different from environmentally driven displacement, as victims of climate change may never be able to return to their homes.

The ramifications of any sort of displacement are profound, not just for those directly affected, but also for host communities and countries. Overburdened infrastructures, socio-economic strains, and cultural tensions can arise, necessitating comprehensive strategies to foster harmony and integration. Yet the root causes of forced displacement can be remedied with a concerted focus by local players and international diplomacy.

Organizations like Refugees International play a crucial role in this arena, advocating for the rights and needs of the displaced, conducting on-the-ground assessments, and influencing policymakers to take informed actions. Their relentless work underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency ofinternational cooperation. But they, too, are overwhelmed by the rapid expansion of the crisis.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL), with its core principles centered on the protection of civilians during conflicts, plays a pivotal role in this discourse. Yet, despite clear legal frameworks, compliance remains
inconsistent. This initiative emphasizes the importance of upholding and reinforcing these international standards.

It’s not just about recognizing the problem; it’s about active engagement. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals to prioritize the rights and needs of the forced displaced. Through collective efforts, informed policies, and sustained advocacy, we can shift the narrative from passive acknowledgment to proactive intervention.
