Ukrainian General Staff:  480 Russian casualties in 24 hours of fighting

The total combat losses of the enemy from 24.02.22 to 23.08.23 were approximately:

Operational information as of 18.00 on 23.08.2023 regarding the russian invasion

Glory to Ukraine! The five hundred and forty-sixth day of large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against our state continues.

During the day, the enemy launched 9 missile and 49 air strikes, carried out 40 attacks from MLRS systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. Also, today the occupiers carried out another attack on the territory of Ukraine, using the “Shahed-136/131” UAV. Our anti-aircraft defense destroyed 12 enemy attack drones. As a result of russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population. Residential buildings, port infrastructure, schools and other civil infrastructure were destroyed.

The probability of launching missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

During the day, 16 combat clashes took place.

On the Volyn and Poliske directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

On the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Romniv, Kostyantynivka, Sumy region, and Dovzhyk, Chugunivka, Kharkiv region. Carried out mortar and artillery attacks on more than 15 settlements, in particular, Bleshnya, Chernihiv region; Iskriskivshchyna, Pokrovka, Ryasne of Sumy Oblast and Ohirtseve, Gatyshche, Krasny Yar of Kharkiv Oblast.

In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the Novoyehorivka area of Luhansk region. Carried out airstrikes in the Shiykivka districts of the Kharkiv region and Tverdokhlibovoy in the Luhansk region. The settlements of Hryanikyvka, Masyutivka, Synkivka, Kupyansk, Pershotravneve, Orlyanske of the Kharkiv region were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Liman direction, more than 30 settlements were hit by artillery fire from the enemy, in particular, Nevske, Bilogorivka of the Luhansk region and Yampil, Zakitne, Verkhnyokamianske, Ivano-Daryivka, Spirne of the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the Vesely area of the Donetsk region. He carried out airstrikes in the areas of Spirny, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and Belaya Hora of the Donetsk region. More than 25 settlements, including Nikiforivka, Vasylivka, Zaliznianske, Orihovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka of the Donetsk region, were damaged by enemy artillery fire.

In the Avdiivsk direction, the settlements of Avdiivka, Tonenke, Severne, Vodyane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske of the Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

In the Marinka direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the Marinka area of the Donetsk region. The settlements of Krasnohirvka, Maryinka, Pobyeda, Novomykhailivka, Kostyantynivka, Katerynivka of the Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, more than 10 settlements, including Novoukrainka, Prechistivka, Zolota Niva, Shakhtarske, Blagodatne, and Urozhane of the Donetsk region, were damaged by enemy artillery fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Mala Tokmakchka, Zaporizhia region. Carried out airstrikes in the Orihiv and Robotyno regions of the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements, including Magdalinivka, Lukyanivske, Pavlivka, Pyatikhatky, and Plavni of the Zaporizhia region, were affected by the enemy’s artillery fire.

In the Kherson direction, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the districts of Beryslav, Odradokamyanka, Lviv, Kherson of the Kherson region and Izmail of the Odesa region. Kherson, Yantarne, Veletenske, Kizomys, Sofiivka, Shiroka Balka of the Kherson region were affected by enemy artillery fire.

At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, are entrenched at the achieved boundaries, and carry out counter-battery countermeasures.

During the day, the air force of the defense forces struck 1 strike on the control post, 10 strikes on personnel concentration areas, and 1 strike on the enemy’s anti-aircraft missile complex.

During the day, units of missile forces and artillery struck 2 control points, 1 area of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, and 2 artillery means at the enemy’s firing positions.

Forced displacement represents one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Individuals and families, torn from the fabric of their communities, find themselves navigating a world of uncertainty, often without basic necessities or a clear path to safety. There are currently some 110 million forced displaced, and this number is growing by 10 million each year!

At the heart of this crisis are the political triggers. Armed conflicts, ethnic or religious persecutions, and systemic human rights abuses force millions to flee their homes in terror. Many are displaced within their own national boundaries, while others seek asylum abroad. If these factors change as a result of political shifts at home or the pressures from abroad, they can return to their homes. Forced displacement is thus different from environmentally driven displacement, as victims of climate change may never be able to return to their homes.

The ramifications of any sort of displacement are profound, not just for those directly affected, but also for host communities and countries. Overburdened infrastructures, socio-economic strains, and cultural tensions can arise, necessitating comprehensive strategies to foster harmony and integration. Yet the root causes of forced displacement can be remedied with a concerted focus by local players and international diplomacy.

Organizations like Refugees International play a crucial role in this arena, advocating for the rights and needs of the displaced, conducting on-the-ground assessments, and influencing policymakers to take informed actions. Their relentless work underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency ofinternational cooperation. But they, too, are overwhelmed by the rapid expansion of the crisis.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL), with its core principles centered on the protection of civilians during conflicts, plays a pivotal role in this discourse. Yet, despite clear legal frameworks, compliance remains
inconsistent. This initiative emphasizes the importance of upholding and reinforcing these international standards.

It’s not just about recognizing the problem; it’s about active engagement. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals to prioritize the rights and needs of the forced displaced. Through collective efforts, informed policies, and sustained advocacy, we can shift the narrative from passive acknowledgment to proactive intervention.
