The Future of United States-Russia Relations

Alexandra Vacroux, Executive Director, The Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies

Vacroux discusses four main things to know about Russia: it has a shared narrative of enemies, it inherited a great civilization that should not be underestimated, it views itself as a great power, and Putin views himself as the leader of this power. She then discusses its rocky relation with the U.S. and argues the U.S. needs to find a way to work constructively with Russia.

Prominent Question: When it comes to cyber warfare and cyber relations should there be a precise definition of what constitutes an act of war?

Key Words: Russia, United States, Putin, Cold War, sanctions, Soviet Union, political strategy, great powers, cyber security, 2016 elections
