U.S.-Israeli Relations After the U.S. Withdrawal from Syria

Of the many ideological cleavages in the American public triggered by the policies of former President Trump, one increasingly partisan issue is support for Israel. In comparison to former President Obama, whom both facilitated bipartisan support for Israel and provided more military support to the US’s primary ally in the Middle East than any other president, Mr. Trump risked domestic support for Israel through his public friendship with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and risked the lives of Israeli citizens in his abrupt exit from Syria. Though leadership has changed in both states since this speech, the situation remains evermore precarious.
