What’s Next with Iran? The Future of Its Weapons Program and of Its Relations with the West

As seen with other influential Obama-era policies, the Trump administration reversed positive diplomatic action in 2018 by withdrawing from a multilateral agreement meant to inhibit Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Given a year after the deal was originally penned, this speech by Mr. Cirincione lauds the accomplishments of this comprehensive, prohibitive agreement. He predicts that this preliminary arrangement could lead to further cooperation between the US and Iran. Unfortunately, these possibilities could not come to fruition. Besides retracting from the deal, former President Trump also ordered the assassination of Iranian Commander Soleimani; prompting Iranians to build back up their Uranium supplies, making them again a nuclear threat.
