Operational information on 18.00, 28.08.2023 regarding the #russian_invasion 

Glory to Ukraine! The five hundred and fifty-first day of large-scale armed aggression of the russian federation against our state continues.

During the day, the enemy carried out 8 missile and 30 air strikes, 19 attacks from MLRS systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population. Residential buildings, schools and other civil infrastructure were destroyed.

The probability of launching missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.

During the day, 26 combat clashes took place.

On the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly.

On the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the Popivka and Slavgorod areas of the Sumy region. The adversary conducted mortar and artillery shelling of more than 20 settlements, in particular, Karpovychi, Kamin of the Chernihiv region; Volfino, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Popivka, Stukalyvka of the Sumy region and Mala Vovcha, Okhrimivka, Veterinarne of the Kharkiv region.

In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy carried out an airstrike in the Ivanivka and Kislivka area of the Kharkiv region. The settlements of Kislivka, Kolodyazne, and Berestov of the Kharkiv region were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched airstrikes in the areas of Tverdokhlibovoy, Belogorivka of the Luhansk region, and Spirny of the Donetsk region. More than 
10 settlements, including Nevske, Bilogorivka of the Luhansk region and Verkhnokamianske, Torske, and Spirne of the Donetsk region, were hit by enemy artillery fire.

In the direction of Bakhmut, the enemy launched an airstrike in the New York area of the Donetsk region. More than 15 settlements, including Pryvillia, Hryhorivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Druzhba of the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy launched an air strike in the Avdiivka area. Oleksandropil, Novokalynove, Avdiivka, and Severny of the Donetsk region were shelled with artillery and mortars.

In the Marinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the Marinka area of the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the Krasnohorivka and Kostyantynivka regions of the Donetsk region. The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobyeda, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka of the Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

In the Shakhtarske direction, the enemy launched airstrikes in the districts Vodiany, Novosilka, Blagodatny, Donetsk region. Such settlements as Vugledar, Vodyane, Prechistivka, Zolota Niva, Urozhane of the Donetsk region were affected by enemy artillery shelling.

In the direction of Zaporizhzhia, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the districts of Robotyny and Novodanilivka of the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements, including Novodarivka, Poltavka, Gulyaipilske, Charivne, Mali Shcherbaki, and Kamianske of the Zaporizhia region, were affected by enemy artillery fire.

On the Kherson direction, the enemy carried out airstrikes in Mykolaivka and Olhivka districts of the Kherson region. Kherson, Sadov of the Kherson region and Ochakiv of the Mykolaiv region suffered from enemy artillery fire.

At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to conduct an offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, are entrenched at the achieved boundaries, and carry out counter-battery countermeasures.

During the day, the Aviation of the Defense Forces made 8 strikes on personnel concentration areas, 1 on the command post and 3 on the enemy’s anti-aircraft missile systems.

During the day, units of Missile Forces and Artillery hit 2 control points, 1 anti-aircraft defense device and 1 artillery device at the enemy’s firing position.

Forced displacement represents one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time. Individuals and families, torn from the fabric of their communities, find themselves navigating a world of uncertainty, often without basic necessities or a clear path to safety. There are currently some 110 million forced displaced, and this number is growing by 10 million each year!

At the heart of this crisis are the political triggers. Armed conflicts, ethnic or religious persecutions, and systemic human rights abuses force millions to flee their homes in terror. Many are displaced within their own national boundaries, while others seek asylum abroad. If these factors change as a result of political shifts at home or the pressures from abroad, they can return to their homes. Forced displacement is thus different from environmentally driven displacement, as victims of climate change may never be able to return to their homes.

The ramifications of any sort of displacement are profound, not just for those directly affected, but also for host communities and countries. Overburdened infrastructures, socio-economic strains, and cultural tensions can arise, necessitating comprehensive strategies to foster harmony and integration. Yet the root causes of forced displacement can be remedied with a concerted focus by local players and international diplomacy.

Organizations like Refugees International play a crucial role in this arena, advocating for the rights and needs of the displaced, conducting on-the-ground assessments, and influencing policymakers to take informed actions. Their relentless work underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency ofinternational cooperation. But they, too, are overwhelmed by the rapid expansion of the crisis.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL), with its core principles centered on the protection of civilians during conflicts, plays a pivotal role in this discourse. Yet, despite clear legal frameworks, compliance remains
inconsistent. This initiative emphasizes the importance of upholding and reinforcing these international standards.

It’s not just about recognizing the problem; it’s about active engagement. We urge governments, organizations, and individuals to prioritize the rights and needs of the forced displaced. Through collective efforts, informed policies, and sustained advocacy, we can shift the narrative from passive acknowledgment to proactive intervention.
